The motor whines at a more irritating pitch, but is less powerful. In the disadvantages column, the only one I could site is that the housing cup is slanted down, I'm assuming for decorative purposes.
It also grinds coffee fine. Sometimes an uneven grind, I may pick up one for grinding spices. It also works well for grinding nuts and seeds for garnishes. Removable dishwasher safe bowl Stowage area with self retracting cord It may cost more, but will last forever.
I'm sure it does a fine job with coffee, but for spices, it is not good and I feel ripped off. The motor runs but the blades don't turn. I once dropped one after a year and broke it, but it seemed nowhere near quitting, so I can't vouch for how long it would work under normal, non-butterfingered conditions. I've only used it around 4 or 5 times, but I'm really impressed with it so far.
Zero complaints so far.
It says take a damp cloth to clean do not submerge in water, so there's really no way to get all the ground pepper out of the tiny crevices that it seems to be hiding in. Took off a star because it won't do different grinds, which is not at all important to me but would be for others. The new one is noisier, i want to say slower spinning and takes longer to produce the same grind as the old one did. I bought this model of Krupp grinder to replace a 20 year old unit of the same type (the old one still works but the blades are too dull now to produce a very fine grind) These new units are not nearly as good as the old ones, even though mine works fine overall.
It sucks for spices. Simply does the job simply! In my mind the quietness, ease of use and ease of cleaning (the black model is easier to clean than white) make this a must-have for coffee lovers. The problem here is that if you aren't thinking actively about the process, at best you wind up with a mess all over the kitchen.
I've used one of these (or a very similar predecessor model) for 13+ years. That turned out to be prone to jamming and strewing grounds over the entire kitchen. I use it mainly for grinding my coffee.
I've been using this to grind flax seeds and it works great. Another problem I am having is that the motor occasionally simply doesn't work. Happy grinding! It feels and sounds like the older model, so likely it will be very reliable, my old 1980s bought model still works well. This will definitely save me money in the long run instead of buying over priced cups of coffee.
